Varnishing & Oiling

Often a fresh coat of oil can restore timber, making it look like new again.

“A good painter cleans to paint; they do not paint to clean”. This is a quote that BUFO follows closely, especially with timber finishes. Prior to varnishing/oiling timber we either pressure washing for durable outdoor pieces (like the bench shown on the right) or a gentle wash with mild soap and water to remove dirt, mildew and other contaminants. After the wood is clean and fully dry, apply two even coats of varnish or oil, allowing appropriate drying time between coats. The finish will penetrate and protect the timber, renewing its appearance and durability.

  • How often should this be done? Timber is thirsty
